Transcribing The Pentagon Papers

We are pleased to announce our next big initiative in the world of publishing. The complete transcription of The Pentagon Papers leaked by Daniel Ellsberg in 1971. While read into the congressional record by U.S. Senator Mike Gravel the summer of that year it has officially achieved Declassified status per Executive Order 13526, Section 3.3 NND Project Number: NND 63316. By: NWD Date: 2011.

The complete work is estimated to clock in at about 14 – 15 books depending upon how we choose to break it up. With volume one slated for release later this year, or early next year.

It should be noted that the bulk of the work will be classified as public domain as the source material we are transcribing from is public domain and can be found on the U.S. National Archive site. (http://www.archives.gov/research/pentagon-papers/)

An indexed e-book edition is also in the works.

Why do all this you may ask?
We take on this project with the mindset of accessibility for researchers, teachers, students, historians, and the general public.

While the documents are free to anyone, their is something special about physically touching something vs. reading it on a screen. Along with an added feeling of security that should something catastrophic happen to the original documents themselves it survives in multiple states so no record is lost to time.

(the upshot that we get our own personal copy for the bookshelf is purely coincidence…)
